The FSX Collection

As a resident of NZ I'm constantly looking for ways to improve my FSX experience within the country. This led me to RealNZ who have a history of great scenery. I already had some of their products for FS2004 (mainly freeware Godzone addons) so naturally I was expecting some more fantastic work to match that quality.

I wasn't disappointed.

I'll start by saying that all of the airports are mind blowing. I've never seen such attention to detail. With the use of high-resolution ground textures, and perfectly placed building/terminals it literally feels like you are there!

The sceneries also come with medium resolution, photoreal areas that surround the airports. They all could have been a little bigger for my liking, as they only take a few minutes to traverse, and some are better than others. Marlborough and Wanaka, for example, is great. A bit blurry at low altitude but overall the colour and detail is amazing. I found though that Wellington and Rotorua had a "washed out" look and the colours were a bit strange. Dense trees in Wellington had a blue tinge for example. Perhaps these aerial photos could have been touched up prior.

The autogen placement is top notch. My only quibble would be that there should have been more trees. A LOT more trees. Mainly in densely forested areas such as on hills and the side of mountains. Seeing as FSX has the capability to show thousands of trees on one tile I'm not sure why it wasn't done. Is it not just a forest polygon?

You'll also get thrown in some free aircraft and missions. Note that most missions didn't work for me due to not having Acceleration. The free repaints are great too!

Overall I recommend this for any kiwi simmer. It is basically a MUST have.
